Douglas Theodore Walden

Douglas Theodore Walden, age 70, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on May 3, 2012, at his home in Hoquiam. Mr. Walden was born on April 17, 1942, in Aberdeen to Merlin Edwin and Helen Mae (Lovelace) Walden. He was raised in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1961.

He attended Grays Harbor College for a brief time and then he moved to California where he became a sales representative for Rubber Maid. He returned to the Harbor in 1970, and in 1972, he and Teresa Crawford were married. They moved to Beaver Creek, Oregon and later built a home in Vancouver. In 1977, the couple was divorced.

In 1976, Mr. Walden was involved in a serious auto accident while working for Rubber Maid. He retired with a medical disability and had lived in Hoquiam since that time.

He loved his children and grandchildren and exposing them to outdoor life was very important to him. Included were things such as fishing, camping trips, barbequing and love of pets. Doug also enjoyed shopping

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Sonja and her husband Robby Whipple of Montesano; one son, Kevin Walden of Aberdeen and his companion Patti Kell and her children Nicole, Shayna, Kirsten and Karsyn; two sisters, Lorrie and husband Kirk Maynard of Cosmopolis and Becky Walden of Hoquiam; and grandchildren Colby, Bryce, Brady and Chase Whipple and Camron Walden. A daughter, Jennifer Walden died in 2007.

An urn committal service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 11th at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park. A celebration of life with potluck meal will follow at the Central Park Four Square Church, 4800 Central Park Dr., Aberdeen, WA.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to PAWS.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
